<http://www.studioxx.org/e/production/workshops/plan_circuit_bending.php>:
*17 March*, 1pm-3pm / Studio XX - 15$
*Edgy Women presents:*
Wikipedia: "Circuit bending is the creative short-circuiting of low
voltage, battery-powered electronic audio devices such as guitar
effects, children's toys and small synthesizers to create new musical
instruments and sound generators. Emphasizing spontaneity and
randomness, the techniques of circuit bending have been commonly
associated with noise music, though many more conventional contemporary
musicians and musical groups (such as Devo) have been known to
experiment with "bent" instruments."
Participants should each bring at least one used electronic toy *that
generates sound and is battery operated* to modify during the course of
this hands-on workshop. Students are invited to participate in a live
experimentation at the Sala Rossa later that evening.

CALL FOR PAPERS .dpi no 9 [15 March]
Suspended Mobility: tensions between the fluidity of mobility and
the static body.
In this upcoming .dpi issue, we would like to focus on another aspect of
mobility. This is your chance to submit an essay or a short reflection
on the static nature of objects and bodies within the surrounding
virtual mobility. New technologies, which permit an increasing amount of
mobility (such as the transmission of information and data), transform
our relationship to both time and space by transporting us into a
virtual realm, while we ourselves are transformed into emitters and
receivers.
Some ideas to reflect on:
* The tensions between the projection of oneself into the virtual
realm and the static nature of the body;
* The construction of new, unlimited virtual territories, and
absence of boundaries (on-line games for instance);
* The emergence of private micro-sized conversations into the public
sphere (cell phones in public transportation);
* Emails, chatting, MSN, Skype, etc.;
* The displacement of the movie theater into private transportation
(cars, busses, airplanes);
* The presence of radio waves and electromagnetic fields;
* The disabled or ageing body in an era of speed and mobility.
*Deadline for abstracts: March 15th, 2007*
In order for the selection committee to select papers for the issue, we
ask that you submit a 250 word abstract, including a title and a 100
word biography.
*Deadline for articles: April 20th, 2007*
The chosen article must follow these specifications: between 1500 and
2000 words (excluding references), adequate formatting, references,
bibliography, and photo credits (if applicable), and a 50 word abstract.
* Author's fee: between 100$ and 150$ for an article.
Send your submission to programmation at studioxx.org
<mailto:programmation at studioxx.org>
Happy writing!
