We have returned after a summer of change and already we have important news for our community.
Karen the programming coordinator has decided to devote herself exclusively to our festival HTMlles, so the Studio is accepting applications for a new programming coordinator to take charge of the Femmes Br@nchées and the online magazine.
Furthermore this autumn we are offering a very interesting workshop on the software MAX, the deadline for applying is the 27th of September.
Finally there are several projects and conferences outside XX looking for artists and participants read on to find out more.
In our next newsletter (coming soon!) you will receive information regarding this year’s regular workshops and our Journée de la Culture activities.

Call for applicants programming coordinator
Studio XX, media arts and multimedia resource centre for women, is now accepting applications for the position of Programming Co-ordinator.
The Programming Co-ordinator is responsible for co-ordinating public events at Studio XX, and supervising
collaborative projects with artists and residencies. The Programming Co-ordinator directs the Femmes Br@nchées
“show-and-tell” series on women and technology and the web magazine. The Programming Co-ordinator would also be
expected to provide the general manager with support in writing grant applications
The ideal candidate should
possess a strong knowledge of new technologies and new media art (particularly
web art); have an understanding of the challenges facing artist-run centres; and possess a good ability to work in a team environment..
Ideally the candidate will be fluently bilingual (English/French), with strong communication skills
and excellent writing skills in English.
The position is 3 days a week, 21 hours a week.
Beginning: end of September.
Salary: $16 380 a year, with six weeks of paid vacation.

Call for proposals for Sound Space workshop on Max/MSP

Le Studio XX sollicite des projets sonores qui seront réalisés dans le cadre d'un atelier de développement professionnel destiné aux femmes artistes médiatiques.
L'objectif général de la formation est de permettre à dix femmes artistes - via la réalisation d'une œuvre multimédia - de s'approprier autant d'un point de vue théorique que pratique les multiples composantes de la dimension sonore de la création multimédia via le logiciel MAX, qu'il s'agisse de la compréhension du langage technique lié à la création sonore ou de la manipulation des outils de base utilisés en audio .
MAX est en effet un outil utile, sinon essentiel, pour bien des artistes interdisciplinaires et technologiques. MAX est un environnement de programmation qui permet à l'utilisatrice de littéralement concevoir un programme informatique qui accomplira les tâches qu'on lui assignera.
Le génie de cet environnement de programmation est qu'il est très convivial. Au lieu d'utiliser un langage à base de texte (comme le C++ ou le BASIC), les objets et les fonctions sont représentés comme étant de "petites boîtes" qu'on relie à l'aide de "cables" les entrés et sorties.
Lors de la formation, l’instructeur et compositeur électroacoustique Patrice Coulombe procédera à un aller-retour constant entre l’apprentissage du logiciel MAX, les parenthèses sur les notions techniques essentielles à une compréhension du fait sonore et les ouvertures aux questions connexes qui surgiront de la pratique même des participantes, soit les questions de mise en forme et de composition.
Les artistes auront accès à du temps libre de laboratoire pour la réalisation des œuvres. Suite à la formation, les artistes maîtriseront les outils nécessaires pour développer pleinement toutes les composantes sonores de leur travail. Les œuvres seront diffusées par le Studio XX dans le cadre dans le cadre d'un salon Femmes br@nchées.

International conference of the documentary seeks submissions of amateur documentary films on the theme of Family on Film.
Les Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM), the unique group dedicated to documentary film in Quebec, invites amateur directors to participate in the program Family on Film by submitting a documentary on a subject related to a member of their family. A selection will be made from the submitted works.
The selected films must have have a personal element and be original. They will be screened during the 6th edition of le Recontres, which will take place from the 14th to the 23rd of November 2003. The 16th of November will be a day themed around issues of the family in documentary film.
The deadline for submissions is th 19th of September

Transforming Spaces seeks artists in all genres
Calling all dancers, poets, painters,
performance artists, video makers, sculptures, actors, musicians…
Transforming spaces is looking for Roving Artists of ALL kinds
Transforming Spaces is a conference event on girls and girlhood that brings together the diverse experiences and vast knowledge of girls and young women, community practitioners, grassroots activists, artists, service providers, academics, educators and policy makers in a space devoted to communication, collaboration and change in the social realm.
This event is planned for November 21-23, 2003 in Montreal,
Quebec.
We are looking for artists of any/all mediums who are interested in developing and presenting work during
the conference. This work would relate to or reflect or document the feelings and/or work of the conference.
Roving Artist will be present during the conference, (like a very mini artist residency), and will produce
work to be presented during the final gala of the conference, Sunday November 23, 2003.
