New @ Studio XX
Stéphanie Lagueux, Studio XX's webmaster, will be temporarily leaving us to take care of her brand new little Collin, to be born mid-December. We wish all the best to her family of four. She will be in contact for certain projects at the Studio.
During this time, we have the pleasure of welcoming Brooke van Mossel Forrester who will be maintaining the website and all its realted projects. Brooke is currently purusing a graduate diploma in Community Economic Development at Concordia University. She knows the Studio well as she was recently a part of the realization of the Matricules archiving project. We are very happy to have her join us to complete our team.

Tracing the Sharawadji
Tracing the Sharawadji is an eight channel sound installation
that seeks to elicit moments of beauty by recreating and mixing the ephemeral
sonorities which resonate in the everyday soundscape along the CP train
tracks that run north of the Mile End and Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhoods.
The project takes an improvisational approach to soundscape composition
resting upon fleeting and spontaneous juxtapositions of sound, which
reflect the inherent unpredictability of naturally occurring soundscapes.
The project's success rests upon the creation of a graphical musical
instrument/user interface in that will serve as both a sampler and a
diffuser. The intent is to draw attention to the way that sounds combine
and create moments of beauty, bordering on the sublime in the mundane
urban soundscape.
Andrea-Jane Cornell likens the sonorities present in the urban environment to
an assemblage of musical instrument, which are randomly orchestrated by its inhabitants.
She engages in the practice of listening as a creative act where naturally occurring
sounds in an environment are relied upon to guide her through their space on
both the physical and acoustic planes. A master's candidate in Media Studies
at Concordia University her research centers on sonic environments and the perception
of such environments when taken out of their context and placed in an enclosed
space.

Media space – MAX/MSP/Jitter & microcontroller workshop
- Training on the audio, visual and interactive components of multi-media production.
Studio XX requests proposals for interactive audio and/or video projects to be
produced within the framework of two professional development workshops intended
for female artists.
Workshop 2 : Advanced
A practical Max workshop where participants
will learn how (Basic Stamp and Arduino) microcontrollers work and
how to construct small electronic circuits to carry out programmed
functions. The workshop will enable the artists to master the tools
necessary to fully realize all aspects of multimedia projects.
Contents:
_Interactivity
Interface-user, motion tracking, sound tracking, sensors, MIDI protocol and
OSC, computer networks, and Internet.
_Circuits
Basic Stamp, electronic components, reading graphs, constructing sensors, motor
control circuits.
The training provided by Patrice Coulombe will allow participants to increase
their artistic and professional skills by learning:
- to use Max software with a view to creating a digital work the language specific
to audio, video and interactive creation
- sensor construction techniques simple electronic circuit construction techniques
- about the functioning of microcontrollers.
Studio XX will present the resulting works within the framework of a Femmes
br@nchées salon.

Introduction to Pure Data
Pure Data is a modifiable programming environment in real time for the processing
of audio, video and graphic samples. The course will concentrate on interactivity
using this interface. A first theoretical part will present the principle of
computational interactivity and open source software. The participants will then
experiment with the different possibilities of interactivity while practicing
a series of simple exercises and learning how to hack basic patches. They will
also acquire autonomy with regards to finding information and support over the
web and getting familiar with the online community that specialises in the uses
of Pure Data. http://creazone.ca/WorkshopStudioXx.html
PD intermediate modules
* animation
* video filters and motion tracking
* audio and visual correspondance
* 3D
* create your own simple VJ tool
* lets play with sensors
Introduction to electronics and microcontrollers
The workshop is for people who want an introduction to electronics for artistic
projects.
Practical exercises will cover:
- The Ohm law and its uses.
- Learning how to programme microcontrollers like Arduino and Basic stamp
- Circuit bending
- Learn how to use a number of sensors
BOY Breadboards and Arduinos if you have some.
