Workshop (advanced)
Studio XX is looking for audio projects to be developed within the framework of a professional development workshop aimed at female media artists. The general objective of the training is to give ten female artists (5 advanced) the opportunity to develop everything from the technical language to mastering basic tools by creating a multimedia project using MAX software. MAX is an extremely user-friendly programming environment that enables users to conceive their own computer programmes in order to carry out specific tasks. Instead of using text language (such as C++ or BASIC), objects and functions are represented by a graphical interface. At this level, teaching will concentrate on programming- as well as management-related problems: lists, databases, masters, pro-sets. Other elements of audio processing, such as FFT, granular synthesis, pitch tracking, user interface and ergonomics will also be taught. Personal assistance appropriate to each individual project will also be provided. Patrice Coulombe, instructor and electro acoustic composer , will systematically teach how to use MAX software, basic technical notions necessary for understanding sound, as well as answer questions, on formatting or composition for example, which may arise as participants use the software. The artists will have access to free time in the laboratory to develop their own creations. At the end of the workshop, the artists will be able to master the necessary tools to fully develop the acoustic components of their work. Studio XX will circulate the resulting creations within the framework of a salon Femmes br@nchées. Project Schedule Media artists interested in this workshop should send: Prerequisite: Max for beginner Deadline for receipt of portfolios (advanced): 5 jan 2004 Send submissions to: This workshop has been made possible with the collaboration

The network project bild-rausch promotes the mutual dialog of female artists, it serves archiving and communication and is open to curators, art managers, gallery owners, art agencies etc. as an information marketplace. Bild-rausch collects information about artworks and current websites of female artists and displays them on online archives in the form of a brief biography, a small sample of images, as well as a web link. Interested female artists who are working with new media (for example photography, video art, performance and action art, computer art, net art, sound art and game art) are invited to apply at http://www.bild-rausch.de/ GirlSpoken invites you to join voices with young women across Canada and contribute to a book of writings and artwork on growing into ourselves...
