Patricia Kearns

Patricia Kearns is an independent filmmaker from Montreal, Quebec. Her documentary films, If the Family Fits (1994), Choir Girls (1998), and Democracy à la Maude (1998), have been shown on television across Canada and in festivals at home and abroad. Active in the community sector, Patricia is a founding member of Studio XX, a women’s digital art centre, where she currently works in community outreach.

She spent eight months with Amber Films, a film co-op based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. She worked there as a writer and assistant director on Like Father (2000), a feature film set in an ex-mining town in the northeast of England.

Most recently she collaborated with choreographer Jane Mappin creating a video for the multimedia dance performance Cinq Voix, Cinq Visages. Having worked for the National Film Board of Canada promoting videos and web projects for children and youth, Patricia is excited to be making a film for youth that incorporates a Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and a Virtual Youth Advisory Council (V-YAC).
