Stéphanie Lagueux : le corps social

Le CORPS SOCIAL seeks to gather people’s feedback to reflect on the idealised image of the body.

Using a website that is both a tool for survey and for action, web visitors give their judgments about the ideal body, directly shaping the real-size installation of a body made of fat in a bath. The distance between the idealised image of the body and its very reality provoke the slow disappearance of the body; warmed up, it blends into its own matter to become a flat surface. On this body-screen, another body is projected and emerges from opaque water, always according to the online visitors’ stances. Matter-made and light-made images meet to reflect the state of the social body. On the web site, images reflect the results of the process.

Through an "arti-statistical" process, this installation shows the actual power of images and ideas on matter and on the world. It displays a influence mechanism that seeks to evoke the impact of the social body on everyone.

Dans le cadre de cette coproduction, le site web a été restructuré via une base de données avec l'aide de Jean-Sébastien Sénécal, de manière à faciliter le développement du projet. L'installation a été montée sur place pendant un mois et présentée publiquement deux fois, ce qui a permis d'éprouver le dispositif à plus long terme pour une première fois. Le projet, en cours depuis 2002, a bénéficié de l'appui du Conseil des arts du Canada, du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, du Studio XX et du Vidéographe.
