between
a rock and a hard place
The
fictional space between a rock and a hard place. This is a space that separates
purpose from intent, meaning from question. A distance to travel blindly, an illusion
to maintain, an itch
of memory.
This
project continues my interest in the ways non-verbal communication is projected
through our bodies. In A Lover's Discourse, Roland Barthes speaks of the
subtle gesture of intimacy as a "festival not of the senses but of meaning."
A meaning that does not come
from anything we say, for spoken language often is unable to properly express
emotion. Yet, the descriptive language used to describe our feelings relies heavily
on inadequate cliches that refer to both the loss of language and the body, like
the simple I have nothing to say,or I have something to get off my chest.
The story fragments add another layer of fiction, another point of departure, more
blind beautiful words.
